What's in store:
Over the past few months, my life has been a whirlwind of challenges and unexpected turns, pushing me to question my identity as an "entrepreneur." Growing up with my father's construction company, working for myself seemed inevitable. From an early age, I ventured into business with a school tuck shop that flourished so well it got shut down! After university, I jumped into diverse ventures, from a timber factory to food logistics and even running boot camps for women. Eventually, I opened a gym, became an athlete, and forged partnerships with major brands, creating a powerful personal brand.
But life had other plans. Selling the gym, retiring as an athlete, and the sudden blow of Covid left me doubting my abilities and my path. Have you ever found yourself questioning everything you thought you knew?
Determined to redefine my purpose, I set out to help men overcome societal pressures and discover their full potential as a performance coach. Ironically, in the process I opened another gym, further complicating my journey. Feeling trapped in an industry I yearned to leave, I sought an escape overseas, hoping distance would grant clarity.
The journey abroad was both breathtaking and tumultuous, testing my mental health and my commitment to my wife and kid not to mention my identity as a man, husband, and father. Doubt and imposter syndrome tried to hold me back, but I refused to give up on my dreams.
Amidst the struggles, a remarkable opportunity emerged – a role as "head of athletic training" at Virgin Active Head Office. A position promising stability and consistent income, but with a catch: corporate life, something foreign to a lifelong entrepreneur like me.
In the throes of indecision, I grappled with the thought of returning to the very industry I wanted to escape. Was this a step backward or a chance to leap forward? Eventually, I realized this was an opportunity for tremendous growth. It was not an end but a new chapter, challenging me beyond my comfort zone.
Embracing the uncertainty, I embarked on this new adventure. In just a few weeks, I've absorbed invaluable life lessons. I've learned to take risks, be bold, and embrace bravery. This metamorphosis has taught me that the decision itself is insignificant; it's the journey and the transformation it brings that truly matter.
Through the twists and turns of my story, I discovered that life's greatest lessons often emerge from unexpected places. Embracing change, even when it seems contradictory, can lead to unimaginable growth and fulfillment. So, to all those facing uncertainty, take the leap and venture beyond your comfort zone – the rewards are worth every daring step.
"What if I fall oh but my darling what if you fly" - Peter Pan
"But failure has to be an option in art and in exploration because it’s a leap of faith. And no important endeavor that required innovation was done without risk. You have to be willing to take those risks.” – James Cameron
In your day be courageous, confident, and curious.
