How I wish I listened to my mom in my early 20's.

Welcome to my weekly newsletter - Where I use stories from my life to unpack lessons and insights I have learnt. I hope you enjoy the material and gain something impactful to apply to your life.

What's in store:

  • Why didn't I listen to my mom!
  • Does mom in fact know best?
  • When your mother tells you...
  • Quote: “The influence of a mother in the lives of her children is beyond calculation.”

For as long as I can remember, my mom would always try and reason me out of doing something that involved danger and or stupidity. I would typically always ignore her or brush it off as she has no idea. However, the older I have gotten and hopefully a little wiser, I have come to realise that 99% of the things mom was warning me against were in-fact for my own good. I realised this only later on in life of course.

I wished I had listened a little more intently and gave her the credit she was due. I am now paying for many of the things she was trying to save me from. Why do moms always have to know best - it's annoying.

Words of Wisdom from Mom: Lessons to Live By

  • Mom always said: "Take care of your body, especially your back, because you only get one, and it won’t last forever." (Now, this is a daily struggle for me, I wish I listened.)
  • Mom always said: "Don’t worry too much about what people think of you. They’re too busy caring about themselves to care about you anyway."
  • When your mother tells you she’s praying for you, say thank you and ask her to never stop!
  • Mom always said: "Don’t lead a girl on, because it will break her heart and hurt you too."
  • Mom always said: "Mend your relationship with your siblings, because you never know when you’ll lose them and regret not making amends."
  • When your mother wants to hug you and spend time with you, don’t brush her off. You’ll learn a lot from her, and she deserves your attention.
  • Believe your mother when she says your father is proud of you, even if he can’t express it. Go give him a hug and cherish his love.
  • Know that your mother loves you unconditionally. It’s true, and it’s a precious gift. They will do anything for you, including giving up their own life for you.

Listen intently, for her words may just serve as the lifeline you so desperately need. Do not allow the precious treasure of her wisdom to slip through your fingers, only to be regretted in moments of remorseful clarity. Embrace the boundless love she showers upon you, and honor her by heeding her guidance. For in doing so, you may unearth the secrets of a life fulfilled, a destiny intertwined with the essence of her being.

It is said that a mother's love knows no bounds, and now I stand as a testament to its truth. Let not the echo of her words fade into oblivion, but instead, let them reverberate within your soul. Let the melody of her wisdom guide you toward a brighter future, where regrets are replaced by gratitude, and the profound impact of a mother's love is acknowledged, cherished, and never taken for granted.

“Mom, I love you, even though I’ll never accept your friend request.” —Unknown

In your day be courageous, confident, and curious.
